In 1993, REUTERS LOAN PRICING CORPORATION (Reuters LPC) was chosen as the Loan Identification Numbers (LINs) Registration Authority by the American National Standards Institute.

LINs are one of the key features of the American National Standard Asset Sales X9.34-1993. LIN is the trademark for a numbering system that establishes a unique loan number for sellers, buyers, administrative agents and management information vendors involved in the sale of syndicated loans.

The LIN is a 9-character deal identification number and a separate 13-character facility identification number. The LIN numbering system provides all parties involved in the transaction of syndicated loans with a unique reference number for each deal and facility. The single numbering system is designed to:

Facilitate proper crediting of money movements,

Focus inquiries,

Create a common reference for market pricing,

Enable a more orderly exchange of information in an automated environment.
